In 2000, thanks to the\ninvitation of the then Rector of the Universidad del Desarrollo, Ernesto Silva\nBafalluy (R.I.P), the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) and the Cl\u00ednica Alemana\nof Santiago jointly decide to create a Faculty of Medicine. The cornerstone of\nthis School would be innovation and public accountability, adherence to ethical\nconduct, and targeting to optimum results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In March 2001, authorities\nfrom the Corporaci\u00f3n Chileno-Alemana de Beneficencia (Chilean-German Charity\nCorporation) and members of the UDD Board of Directors met to create a Facultad\nCiencias de la Salud (School of Health Sciences), which would provide a solid\nbase for a scientific, ethical and service culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In July of that same year, the UDD and the Cl\u00ednica Alemana signed a\ncollaboration agreement for the creation of the Faculty,<\/strong> an innovative\nalliance. Two months later the Hospital Padre Hurtado (HPH) joined the\nagreement undertaking to assist academic education. In this way, HPH became the\nmain clinical campus of the Faculty, as well as a strategic partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2002, the Facultad\nreceived its first cadre of students of the Medicine and Nursing programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additionally, and to\nsupport the scientific and ethical base of students, as of 2002 we have created\nmany research centers\/institutes, now grouped under the Instituto de Ciencias e Innovaci\u00f3n en Medicina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the interest of academic\nquality, in 2003 we created an area in charge of the continuous training of academicians,\ncurrently called the Centro\nde Desarrollo Educacional (Center\nfor Educational Development), (CDE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since 2003, we have signed academic\nand health care agreements with various institutions, such as the health care centers\nof the municipalities of La Granja, San Ram\u00f3n and La Pintana and the Hogar de\nCristo (Chilean Public Charity) and the Instituto Nacional del C\u00e1ncer, among\nothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2004, we built a 1,000\nsq. m. (10,764 sq. ft.) academic module, attached to the HPH. This module has\nthe equipment required for classes and discussion of clinical cases. To date,\nthe Faculty has built three academic modules, infrastructures oriented to both\nhealth care and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2005, we welcomed the\nfirst cadre of Dentistry students; likewise, in 2007, we welcomed students entering\nthe following programs: Nutrition and Dietetics, Medical Technology, Physical\nTherapy, and Speech Therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2009, we inaugurated the\nbuilding of the UDD Dental Clinic in the municipality of La Florida, the main\nclinical campus of the Dentistry program. This building also has facilities for\nacademic assistance activities for students following Physical Therapy, Speech\nTherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2019, the Obstetrics program\nopened its doors to the first generation of Obstetric Nurses and in 2020, we\nlaunched the Occupational Therapy program, thus completing nine undergraduate\ncareers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the area of Postgraduate\nstudies, the Faculty currently offers postgraduate specialization and sub-specialization\nprograms at the Cl\u00ednica Alemana, the Instituto Nacional del C\u00e1ncer, and the\nPadre Hurtado Hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In 2000, thanks to the invitation of the then Rector of the Universidad del Desarrollo, Ernesto Silva Bafalluy (R.I.P), the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) and the Cl\u00ednica Alemana of Santiago jointly decide to create a Faculty of Medicine.
