Mar\u00edn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Aplicar la inteligencia artificial para mejorar la detecci\u00f3n y el tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer es el objetivo central del proyecto&nbsp;<strong>PRECISION-IA: Programa Tecnol\u00f3gico de Inteligencia Artificial para la Oncolog\u00eda de Precisi\u00f3n<\/strong>, una iniciativa chilena que re\u00fane a universidades, centros de investigaci\u00f3n y actores p\u00fablicos y privados para fortalecer el desarrollo de la medicina personalizada en el pa\u00eds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liderado por la&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.udd.cl\/\">Universidad del Desarrollo<\/a> (UDD),&nbsp;<\/strong>junto a la&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uchile.cl\/\">Universidad de Chile<\/a><\/strong>, el proyecto fue recientemente adjudicado por la Corporaci\u00f3n de Fomento de la Producci\u00f3n (Corfo) en la convocatoria&nbsp;<em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/corfo.cl\/sites\/cpp\/convocatoria\/programa_tecnologico_inteligencia_artificial_industria_chilena\/\">Programas Tecnol\u00f3gicos para el uso y adopci\u00f3n de la Inteligencia Artificial en la Industria Chilena<\/a><\/em>\u201d, cuyo objetivo es incrementar la tasa de innovaci\u00f3n tecnol\u00f3gica en productos y procesos de empresas de distintos sectores, disminuyendo brechas, mejorando la productividad y contribuyendo a su diversificaci\u00f3n y sofisticaci\u00f3n.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En particular, PRECISION-AI busca la transformaci\u00f3n del sistema de salud chileno mediante el desarrollo, validaci\u00f3n, escalamiento e implementaci\u00f3n de un portafolio de soluciones tecnol\u00f3gicas basadas en inteligencia artificial, que optimicen el diagn\u00f3stico, tratamiento y pron\u00f3stico del c\u00e1ncer, promoviendo una medicina de precisi\u00f3n accesible, efectiva y centrada en el paciente. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El proyecto contempla, adem\u00e1s, la creaci\u00f3n de una infraestructura de datos federada, segura, \u00e9tica y escalable, que permitir\u00e1 el entrenamiento de modelos de IA sin comprometer la privacidad de los datos de los pacientes. Esta infraestructura habilitar\u00e1 no s\u00f3lo el desarrollo y validaci\u00f3n de las tecnolog\u00edas que son parte del portafolio de PRECISION-AI, sino que se espera que en el futuro sea accesible para el ecosistema nacional e internacional para la validaci\u00f3n de m\u00e1s y nuevas herramientas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A su vez, cuenta con la participaci\u00f3n de diversos actores del ecosistema nacional e internacional en las \u00e1reas de salud, inteligencia artificial y oncolog\u00eda, incluyendo instituciones de salud p\u00fablicas y privadas, grandes y medianas empresas, start-ups y asociaciones de pacientes.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A nivel nacional, son parte del proyecto la Cl\u00ednica Alemana de Santiago, la C\u00e1mara de la Innovaci\u00f3n Farmac\u00e9utica, el Instituto de Salud P\u00fablica, la Municipalidad de Huechuraba y las start-ups Oncoger y AIDA. En tanto, a nivel internacional, destaca el apoyo del Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) y del London AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde la UDD, la iniciativa es encabezada por el Dr. Ricardo Armis\u00e9n, investigador del Centro de Gen\u00e9tica e Inmunolog\u00eda Traslacional y director del Anillo de Oncolog\u00eda de Precisi\u00f3n en Chile. Junto a Alberto Lecaros y Mauricio Mattoli, del Instituto de Ciencias e Innovaci\u00f3n en Medicina (ICIM), Pablo Pizarro, director de la carrera de Ingenier\u00eda Civil en Biomedicina UDD, y Karen Or\u00f3stica, del Instituto Data Science, estar\u00e1n a cargo del dise\u00f1o e integraci\u00f3n de modelos predictivos basados en IA y de la coordinaci\u00f3n de los pilotos cl\u00ednicos en centros de salud nacionales.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Este programa busca poner la inteligencia artificial al servicio de las personas, acelerando el diagn\u00f3stico y personalizando los tratamientos oncol\u00f3gicos. Nuestro objetivo es generar soluciones tecnol\u00f3gicas validadas y que sean escalables, mejorando la calidad de vida de los pacientes y fortaleciendo el sistema de salud nacional<\/em>\u201d, se\u00f1ala el Dr. Armis\u00e9n.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En este sentido, agrega que \u201c<em>representa un paso significativo en la consolidaci\u00f3n del ecosistema de investigaci\u00f3n aplicada de la UDD, reafirmando nuestro compromiso con la generaci\u00f3n de conocimiento que impacte positivamente en la sociedad y con el impulso de soluciones tecnol\u00f3gicas que transformen la salud en Chile<\/em>\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El doctor Arnaldo Mar\u00edn, profesor de la U. de Chile y director alterno del proyecto, se\u00f1ala que el portafolio articula m\u00faltiples l\u00edneas de trabajo agrupadas en dos ejes principales: detecci\u00f3n y diagn\u00f3stico precoz, y gesti\u00f3n integral del paciente oncol\u00f3gico. El prop\u00f3sito, explica, es ofrecer un acompa\u00f1amiento continuo, desde la primera sospecha hasta el seguimiento posterior al tratamiento, promoviendo una atenci\u00f3n m\u00e1s humana, personalizada y sustentada en evidencia cient\u00edfica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De este modo, con una duraci\u00f3n de cinco a\u00f1os y una inversi\u00f3n de $5.000 millones, PRECISION-AI aspira a consolidar un consorcio sostenible que posicione a Chile como referente regional en inteligencia artificial aplicada a la oncolog\u00eda.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UDD and University of Chile Lead Technological Program to Drive the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Precision Oncology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applying artificial intelligence to enhance cancer detection and treatment is the central objective of <strong>PRECISION-AI: Technological Program of Artificial Intelligence for Precision Oncology<\/strong>, a Chilean initiative that brings together universities, research centers, and public and private stakeholders to strengthen the development of personalized medicine in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by the <strong>Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD)<\/strong>, together with the <strong>University of Chile<\/strong>, the project was recently awarded funding by the <strong>Corporaci\u00f3n de Fomento de la Producci\u00f3n (Corfo)<\/strong> under the call for proposals <strong>\u201cTechnological Programs for the Use and Adoption of Artificial Intelligence in the Chilean Industry.\u201d<\/strong> This program aims to increase the rate of technological innovation in products and processes across various sectors, reducing gaps, improving productivity, and contributing to diversification and sophistication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, PRECISION-AI seeks to transform Chile\u2019s healthcare system through the development, validation, scaling, and implementation of a portfolio of AI-based technological solutions that optimize cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis\u2014promoting accessible, effective, and patient-centered precision medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project also includes the creation of a secure, ethical, and scalable federated data infrastructure that will enable AI model training without compromising patient data privacy. This infrastructure will not only support the development and validation of technologies within the PRECISION-AI portfolio but is also expected to become accessible in the future to national and international ecosystems for validating additional tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative involves diverse actors from the national and international ecosystems in health, artificial intelligence, and oncology, including public and private healthcare institutions, large and medium-sized companies, start-ups, and patient associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nationally, the project includes <strong>Cl\u00ednica Alemana de Santiago<\/strong>, the <strong>Pharmaceutical Innovation Chamber<\/strong>, the <strong>Public Health Institute<\/strong>, the <strong>Municipality of Huechuraba<\/strong>, and start-ups <strong>Oncoger<\/strong> and <strong>AIDA<\/strong>. Internationally, it is supported by the <strong>Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)<\/strong> and the <strong>London AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At UDD, the initiative is led by <strong>Dr. Ricardo Armis\u00e9n<\/strong>, researcher at the Center for Translational Genetics and Immunology and director of the Precision Oncology Network in Chile. Together with <strong>Alberto Lecaros<\/strong> and <strong>Mauricio Mattoli<\/strong> from the Institute of Science and Innovation in Medicine (ICIM), <strong>Pablo Pizarro<\/strong> from director of the Biomedical Civil Engineering Program at UDD, and <strong>Karen Or\u00f3stica<\/strong> from the Data Science Institute, they will oversee the design and integration of AI-based predictive models and coordinate clinical pilots in national healthcare centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis program aims to put artificial intelligence at the service of people, accelerating diagnosis and personalizing cancer treatments. Our goal is to generate validated and scalable technological solutions that improve patients\u2019 quality of life and strengthen the national healthcare system,\u201d says Dr. Armis\u00e9n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He adds, \u201cThis represents a significant step in consolidating UDD\u2019s applied research ecosystem, reaffirming our commitment to generating knowledge that positively impacts society and driving technological solutions that transform healthcare in Chile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Arnaldo Mar\u00edn<\/strong>, professor at the University of Chile and deputy director of the project, explains that the portfolio integrates multiple lines of work grouped into two main axes: early detection and diagnosis, and comprehensive management of oncology patients.
