Entonces, lo que ahora estamos haciendo es tratar de ampliar el espectro de su uso, frente a f\u00e1rmacos que si bien son muy buenos para lo que fueron dise\u00f1ados \u2013 un anticancer\u00edgeno y un anti arr\u00edtmico- son t\u00f3xicos para el h\u00edgado\u201d, explica el investigador.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">En tanto, Fernando Ezquer, subdirector del centro, present\u00f3 los resultados de su Fondecyt Regular, cuyo eje central fue c\u00f3mo las c\u00e9lulas madre mesenquim\u00e1ticas protegen la muerte de las neuronas en el ojo, en una de las complicaciones m\u00e1s frecuentes de la diabetes: la retinopat\u00eda diab\u00e9tica.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/medicina.udd.cl\/icim\/files\/2016\/06\/Fernando-Ezquer.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2308\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/medicina.udd.cl\/icim\/files\/2016\/06\/Fernando-Ezquer-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"Fernando Ezquer\" width=\"251\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medicina.udd.cl\/icim\/files\/2016\/06\/Fernando-Ezquer-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/medicina.udd.cl\/icim\/files\/2016\/06\/Fernando-Ezquer-87x62.jpg 87w, https:\/\/medicina.udd.cl\/icim\/files\/2016\/06\/Fernando-Ezquer.jpg 647w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Actualmente, no existe un tratamiento para la retinopat\u00eda en sus inicios, sino que hay terapias que se aplican en estad\u00edos mucho m\u00e1s avanzados. De este modo, se quiso llegar a una terapia para combatir la condici\u00f3n en una etapa anterior.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cPara esto, se inyectaron c\u00e9lulas en el ojo directamente y vimos que la c\u00e9lula se mantiene en el ojo y secreta factores protectores y de sobrevida para estas neuronas que se estaban muriendo. En palabras simples, dejaban de morir, por lo que estamos previniendo el avance de la enfermedad, preservando la vida de las neuronas que ah\u00ed estaban\u201d, explica Ezquer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">La International Society for Stem Cells Research es una de las asociaciones m\u00e1s grandes en el mundo dedicada al trabajo con c\u00e9lulas madre y a su aplicaci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica.
