Dr. Carlos Salomon PhD, DMedSc, MSc

Dr. Salomon´s research line has uncovered the potential use of exosomes as biomarkers for several pathological conditions and therapeutics focused on pregnancies and ovarian cancer. In the last five years, he has made several contributions to our understanding the role of placental exosomes during gestation, and his work demonstrated their nature as specific subcellular compartments and the ability of exosomes to modify the biological function of target cells. Dr. Salomon has published 83 publications, which 58 are in the extracellular vesicles field in the last 5 years. He is a principal investigator on several projects on extracellular vesicles based at the USA (NIH), Australia (NHMRC), U.K (Action Research) and Chile (FONDECYT). In the last five years, he has obtained over 3 million dollars in external funding. Recently. Dr. Salomon has focused on the development of micro-fabricated devices for molecular diagnostics and synthesis, characterization and application of magnetic nanoparticles for their use in the development of multi-marker diagnostics.
